About
Space can sometimes be a determining factor for amplifiers. At least for me it is. As space is such a tight comoddity and I was tired of playing through a headphone amp, I needed something with a small footprint. So I designed this vertical 2×12 amp cabinet loaded with two Eminence Swamp Thang speakers. These were chosen primarily because they handle distortion quite well, carry a massive power rating (150W stereo to 300W mono) so I can hook them up to just about anything, and because they have a funny name.
I wired both speakers up to a switch in the back that allows for 4, 8 and 16 ohm impedence options. 4 and 16 ohm impedences are accessible in a mono configuration, while 8 ohm impedece is accessible only in stereo. I spent so much time on the fence cycling through every tolex option available that I decided to go without it and embrace the wooden-box look. I also designed a removable back panel so it can either be fully closed or open-back. After some staining, matching grillcloth and black hardware, it gives a bit of a ‘modern-gothic-grandpa-furniture’. I think it looks pretty sweet, and it works great, so can’t complain.
