A shop I was working at got a new lathe and I wanted to learn how to use it. This was another around-the-holidays type of gift so I made a matching pair of sentimental pens for myself and my partner. It just so happens that turning pens is a pretty big hobby and there are plenty of little bits and doodads you can buy to build your own custom pen.

I got hands on some acrylic bar stock in two wacky different colors and got to work. The main goal was to turn these down to a very specific size so that some brass inserts can be pushed into the middle, and the rest of the pen can be assembled around the inserts.

The end result wasn’t too shabby for a first attempt at something new. The gift was well recieved and I’ve gotten good use out of my pen ever since.
