About
I’ve only done a couple of these, but they’re pretty cool. A local skateboard shop around the corner from an old workplace used to carry (and hopefully still do) blank maple skateboards at a lesser cost than that of a regular brand-name one. I think the idea was that so many decks get scratched up or stickerbombed anyways, why even bother with putting anything down there? I’ve also seen a lot of kids take a whack at painting these boards – which I think is terrific.
I however had some slightly different interests. At the time, I was working for a commercial laser cutting and 3D printing company. So naturally, I wanted to see if I could stick a skateboard into one of the laser machines to engrave some artwork on there.
Turns out, that is very doable, and looks very cool.
