Traynor Retrofit

About

Got hands on a very used Traynor Voicemate YVM-3 for $100 years ago. It’s definitely seen better days, but worked seemingly well. Had a broken potentiometer (which I think was my fault) and some gnarly crackling whenever any of the other knobs were adjusted. A quick pot replacement and a generous amount of contact cleaner and she’s good as new.

It is maybe 25 watts, but it can get quite loud. It’s essentially just a solid-state, 4-input PA with a big reverb tank. It also has a couple of 8 Ohm outputs. Gives the kind of warm reverb only a well used piece of audio equipment from the 70’s can.

Also, every amp should come with a maintenance schematic built-in. Not sure if this is from factory or left by a previous tech, but that’s super helpful for figuring out part replacements – especially for older, harder-to-identify components.
